the one.

I think we get closer and closer to finding the one we all look for; and that could be anybody. sometimes it could be a lifelong companion, sometimes it can be your own identity...a lot of the times it means both, however little we realize it.

we surround ourselves with different types of people for various reasons, right? sometimes we want to see our worst sides and challenge them. sometimes we want to feel always at our best, but the reason we have different people around is because we can't feel everything all at once. it's nice feeling recognized, even more it's nice to be understood.

so how do we know who to look for? more importantly, how do we know what to look for? ever think we look at people because they have certain qualities, not solely because it's a risk?

let me make it more simple: people need to be interested..and we know which components of a person intrigue us and why...but do we know if it's right? do we know if it's the one intrigue we want? usually when we find out, it's too late. and that's how we learn.

I think I'm getting closer to finding the one. I'm sure my idea of the one will change over and over, but chances are so will that person. things tend to work out because people learn to accept, but what if in some cases it never had to be learned? what if what we thought people need to accept was actually what people want to expect? it's easy to underestimate people just as much as ourselves, and that's only important to remember if you don't like surprises.

" there are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind. "
-- c.s. lewis

at my age, very few people want to stay put. dreams, destinations, desires all have the spotlight of our thoughts at any given moment of the day or night. what stops us from pursuing our nomadic nature? sometimes I think it could be cowardice, otherwise I blame it on nostalgia. this may come out as a curve ball, but let me explain.

nostalgia ripens just as much as we do as individuals because life never stops ripening. think back to your lowest point in life, absolute lowest. there is a reason you can think back, it's because you let go and moved forward. you understood that life was going to move on regardless if you participated or not. memories don't ripen, they stay the same. you've learned that the past belongs to your memories, and those you select will always remain in your present.

I will say this, very few people I know allow life to move past them without at least dipping their toes in it. and what is an experience without overcoming fear? overcoming the risk of change and something new? there shouldn't be room for fear, only anticipation as each new experience awaits to be conquered. why? because more of life ahead is in our control than we realize, just like more of what we hold onto from our past is in our control. and we can always give importance to what we find important, right? just some food for thought the next time you choose to stay put.

" sometimes real life doesn't ring true. "
-- laura dave

sometimes reality isn't realistic at all. sometimes we are so caught up in our expectations for reality, that we can't distinguish between what we find true and what we desire. but who decides reality? since when does everything in life have substantial reason behind it? it all depends on what we consider real life to be. if we consider real life to be the rational, mature way of doing things, then of course most of real life will not ring true. if real life is supposed to make sense, have understandable sequences, then I am positive real life rarely rings true.

this is where people have a hard time: when they try to decipher why something happened. sometimes things just happen, whether they truly make sense or not. sometimes things aren't supposed to make sense. personally I feel like we throw out curve balls that never make sense just to keep sense of reality. we let ourselves make choices; we let ourselves fall in love, we let ourselves fall out; we let ourselves hurt someone, we let ourselves get hurt; we let ourselves succeed, we let ourselves fail...why? because of reality. reality isn't one redundant plane, it's made up of everything we know.

reality is always true, until it goes against what we expect. how does that happen? I hate to say this, but the only way to go against expectations is by going against our desires. no matter what, the things we want will always drive the things we need, whether or not we realize it just yet.
